Position Summary:
We are looking for driven, talented Process Engineers to join our growing Life Cycle Management (LCM) group. The LCM group works as an integral part of our Consumables Development and Manufacturing process and is tasked with increasing quality and yield within our high volume production environments. The individual will provide support to new product introduction, production process development, product transfers, and existing line sustainment. Additionally, s/he will partner cross-functionally with R & D, Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and other engineering groups to develop and sustain processes for new products.

All About You

Responsibilities:

Participate in process sustaining, definition and improvement, design, development and quality test activities in the making of consumable products or support of processes/equipment used to sequence genomes.
Troubleshoot production line issues related to yield, quality and throughput.
Construct and execute controlled experiments (including DOE’s) to optimize processes, address yield and quality issues and drive implementation of solutions in a production environment to meet production goals.
Analyze process test results, issue reports and make technical recommendations.
Work cross functionally with R&D, Manufacturing and Quality to develop processes for new products and improve processes of existing products.
Represent Operations needs on development teams.
Define technical requirements and write procedures for Production to process product.
Work on teams to develop and transfer new processes/products to production and enhance their robustness.

Requirements:

Work experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical or semiconductor industries is desirable.
High level problem solving and reasoning skills required.
Experience with chemical processes (preferably organic) preferred.
Experience with statistics, Statistical Process Control and DOE techniques is a plus.
Experience with high volume production in a high tech, high volume consumables industry is a plus.
High level computer skills are required. Intermediate level programming knowledge is strongly desired.
Experience with product development processes and project management is a plus.
Good interdepartmental communication skills and documentation skills are required.
Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals while working across departments is required.

Education:

B.S./M.S./ PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnical Engineering, Bioinformatics or MS/PhD in Materials Science or Physical Chemistry, with 0-2 years of relevant experience in production support/sustaining and/or process definition and development, design, scale-up, improvement and validation.

Sr Prin R/D Engineer

Guide development of significant, new fatigue test and structural analysis methods for innovative heart valve replacement and repair devices. Using applied mechanics principles, lead the development of device- and material-level fatigue test methods to characterize structural reliability performance and demonstrate attainment of reliability requirements for evaluation of new device designs.

Work in conjunction with product development teams to translate in vivo use conditions into appropriate boundary conditions for component structural analyses and device-level test methods. Improve existing in-vitro testing processes, technologies and protocols to meet pre-clinical testing requirements. Lead development of internal risk management procedures and external regulatory guidelines related to structural reliability.

Lead the implementation of Design for Reliability and Manufacturability best-practices across multiple development projects. Provides technical mentorship to engineers and technicians and serves as a technical leader in the group.

Interpret customer requirements and direct the definition of performance criteria, analytical approaches, and the selection of the optimum design methods. Formalize testing and evaluation methodologies/approaches that result in comprehensive reliability testing and analyses of candidate designs. Assume the leadership role in testing lab for development of test protocols and application of technologies to the structural evaluation of new product designs. Coordinate with engineers and technicians to train and develop testing capabilities.

Develop, validate and implement new test techniques to fully address structural integrity of heart valve products. Through in-vitro and in-vivo characterizations, identify and develop appropriate test and analysis methods that reasonably represent expected device physiologic loading conditions. Prepare plans/reports and perform in-vitro testing of valve products and associated structural components.

Formalize testing methodologies and approach to address comprehensive reliability analyses of designs

Help to define verification/validation testing and analyses that satisfy both regulatory and internal Medtronic requirements.

Acts as advisor to management and customers on structural reliability. Requires broad perspective of market, company, and regulatory policies in addition to leadership capabilities.

Coordinate efforts of other technical personnel from internal or external sources to address areas of fatigue analysis, fracture mechanics, SEM imaging and failure modes analysis. Coordinate with outside consultants and clinicians to ensure testing and analyses required to fully qualify and verify device designs are appropriately representative of expected use conditions.

Prepare and deliver high quality presentation content on technical and procedural topics to management, marketing, clinicians, and other external stakeholders.
